Same audio quality, it does improve some other features besides colors:
-brighter screen
-longer battery life
-improved ear buds smoother profile and rubber liners around the edge
Perhaps the best improvement in sound is the “gapless” playback though reducing those long pauses.
If you really want to improve the sound, try upgrading to noise-reducing or high fidelity earphones. Try playing your iPod with a set of high fidelity ear-covering headphones . . . you’ll be amazed at the difference.

The sound quality of the new NANO is the same as the old, which is to say that it is good, not excellent. Of course, most people won’t notice or care about the different between good and excellent.
